be a dog

so nothing has been written here in 6 months.

surely there were many post worthy items along the way, peh..

PEI was visited for a fantastic 3 week vacation, it is an island sorely missed. prior to vacaion departure, resignation was offered pending acceptance of terms.

upon return to the western coast, resignation terms are accepted. a job interview is preceded by a chance encounter at a local barber... interview results fruitless, but chance encounter results in full time employment, working from home for a rammed earth building company based on salt spring island. travelling every monday to ssi for company meetings, design department based in victoria. longterm carreer potential. indeed.

dear self of the future.
self of the present is currently quite content with life.
major subject areas are all in the B to A- range.
new abode is cold but really good anyway.
large room with uninsulated hardwood floors, drafty fireplace.
cats included.
cook street village, ocean proximal.
who could ask for more.
ok i could.
went on field trip at work today, permission slips were not required.
resolved to apply to dalhousie for architecture despite being very uncertain if that is the correct path towards becoming canada's leading designer/architect of the 10's and 20's.
resolution to attend dalhousie will remain pending.
what letters are more impressive;
BEDS and MArch or Dipl.Arch
tho it is what future self does with the letters that is important. and who knows what that may be.

modus operandi

on friday i learned of a potential new housing situation.
on saturday i looked at the place and i'd give it an 8.5
on monday i confirmed that i will move into that place.

if anyone needs or knows of someone who needs a place to live, my room in the fernwood place will be available. it is a pretty good deal, 350 includes everything. literally everything, phone, electricty, internet, heat. i haven't paid a single bill while living there. the 2 guys are decent enough, almost never there. it is the main level of a house. let me know if you got any leads....

if anyone could give me a hand moving a few large things, very few in fact. double bed, dresser, table. you would be my saviour, and i'd give you booze.

new place is 3 blocks from dallas road, and 3 houses from cook street.

i'm the only one in the office at the moment. kinda weird. we were given the choice of taking friday or monday off since we do not get stat holidays as contract workers (will soon be switching to 'employee' status).

reading about concrete that absorbs air pollution, and steel as a sustainable building material, listening to my music loudly. slacking off, getting excited for weekend.

going to vancouver tomorrow with B to see bodyworlds 3, maybe a music show too. haven't been to van (except in transit) in ages, like years.

getting itchy to go places and make plans. big places. big plans.

...coworker just returned... back to pretending to do work..

i may soon have secured a waterfront home in vic west. it is unbelievably nice, wood floors, fire place, nice yard, incredible view, dining room, spacious, 2 rooms up, 2 down(lower floor is mostly unfinished, room for jam space.)

it seems almost too good to be true, and something tipped me off that it might be... it is a rather bizzare subletting situation. this lady in california wants me to put money into her account, acting as proxy to the actual landlords. the reason she wants to sublet as opposed to just giving up the place is that there is a toothless-stray cat who has become accustom to receiving wet food served daily on the premises, she wants to ensure someone will continue this. i don't have much problem with that, however i think it would be prudent to confirm with the owners that my rent money is actually getting to them and this is not some sort of a scam..

any thoughts?

anyone want a room in the nicest place you'll ever live?.. rent will be 300-350, i'm thinking the basement rooms should be cheaper.. the house is 1350. put the word out, i should know forsure this weekend.

i'm going to the other coast in about a month for two weeks. i'm wikked stokked. i saved 250 bux by flying from vancouver to halifax instead of victoria to charlottetown. i'll be heading to the island right away tho, as there is a music festival the weekend i get there..

Friday

Joel Plaskett Emergency
Jason Collett
Great Lake Swimmers
Two Hours Traffic
Mark Bragg
Smothered In Hugs
Fugato
The Mystery System

Saturday

De La Soul
Xavier Rudd
The Sadies
Grand Theft Bus
Skratch Bastid
The Novaks
Mars Hill
All of Green
Tanya Davis

Sunday

The New Deal
Matt Mays & El Torpedo
Wintersleep
In Flight Safety
Brooke Miller
Hot Toddy
Holy Fuck
Catherine MacLellan
Ryan Leblanc
Jenn Grant

mostly maritime/eastern locals, but dela friggin soul?! on the beach in pei, woo! plaskett and smothered in hugs are also highly anticipated.

then i'm going to continue to enjoy the beach for a week-ish

(not like the shitty ass rock beaches that are too cold for swimming out here.. i'm talkin white sand, and water warm enough for nightsmiwwming.)

then to halifax for the remainder.

upon returning i'm going to get my own place. lofty downtown bachelor w/hard wood floors.

then start planning my next move. i've not got any sort of short-long term plan right now, other than working. but i may head south again next winter. and or look into the possibilites of working internationally. paris maybe?

yo checkit, from thejointpizzaria's lj:

MIKE D....YOU ROCK!
Thanks soooo much Mr. Mike! The Joint's Astrovan was right where you spotted it earlier today. We had FOUR parking tickets! The thief took a couple of CD's and traded his nasty shoes for my nice(r) hiking boots, opened and ate half a box of Honey Nut Cheerios we had in the van, and threw the contents of the glove box around a bit...all in all not much was missing or damaged. WHEW! So yeah, no need to call the authorities anyone, our Pizza Van is safe at home!
____________________________________________

weird

in march my new shoes cost more than my rent.

i got a pair of 300 dollar designer shoes in the mail today. they were on clearance sale and ended up being only 185 after tax and shipping. i am so affluent and it fucking rules.

autoCAD'ing 8 hours a day is going very well. seems likely that my contract will be extended, but i haven't confirmed this yet.

sometimes when i close my eyes i see red blue green lines vectors symbols zooming and panning all overtheplace. clikclik fuck clikclickcliclkclicck fuck. you see, i was trained in 'VectorWorks' and had to learn 'autoCAD' for this job, it took me less than a week to be proficient. now i'm at the point i was at w/VW where i can work faster than the computer, and the program's eccentricities become anoying, resulting in frustrated mashing of the esc key. its so much fun.

my birthday is 2 months from today.

trying to get some music thing on the go.

2006 is the year to stay focused, someone said once.

ten dollars of karma please

so last nite as i'm consuming faxe on my way down mason street to go see we are wolves, i see a lady about 20 ft in front of me trip on the side walk and tottally fall down all over the place... as i pass her, kind of smile in that, 'its ok, i just saw you embarass yourself' kind of way.. she's all frazzled, carrying various papers, photocopies of her liscence etc. she stops me and explains how she's from ontario, lost her wallet, ran out of gas, and is staying in oak bay. and i'm like: 'oak bays that way'... clearly she needed more help than that. she assures me she's not a junkie or street person, blah blah, hates to have to ask, but blah blah.... ok fine, so i give her ten bucks and my email cuz she says she'll pay me back. i laugh as i head on my way, fuck, i probly won't ever hear from her again i think, oh well ten dollars karma i assure myself

it's probly well that i didn't have that extra 10 in my wallet, or i would have just drank more than i needed to.... show was great. karma not immediately apparent.
______________________________________________________________________
then this morning i ignore ringing phone as usual, eventually pull myself out of bed, check email.... aaaanndd duhn dada duuuummm: here have a job!

____

so ya, i got a job today.
it's a month tryout kind of thing at H. Kwan Achitects. I'll be doing bitch work mostly, alot of everything. answering the phone, running the plotter, detail drawnings, and shit like that. i'm pretty damn stoked, but now'm like fuck, i have to work tomorrow...

"if you could make another one of you, then you wouldn't give the other one to me"
